Ned Evans: Artist Talk

  • RAM 614 Kentucky St. Bakersfield, CA 93305 (map)

In conjunction with the exhibition Liquid Light, RAM is pleased to present a gallery walkthrough with artist Ned Evans.

Ned Evans’ practice spans over six decades, merging the perceptual rigor of Southern California abstraction with a lifelong engagement with the ocean, where light, material, and memory are explored through process and personal experience. The exhibition brings together paintings and resin wall reliefs from the past 18 years.

Doors open at 10:00. No RSVP is required.

Ned Evans (b. 1950) is a painter and lifelong surfer based in Venice. He received his BFA and MFA from the University of California, Irvine in the 1970s, where he studied alongside artists such as Billy Al Bengston, Robert Irwin, Ed Moses, Larry Bell, and Craig Kauffman during a formative period.

Aligned with the ethos of the Finish Fetish and Light and Space movements, Evans merges the materials and sensibilities of coastal life with those of the studio, contributing to an aesthetic now considered distinctly Californian. His paintings, drawings, and resin sculptures have been exhibited at institutions including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Laguna Art Museum, Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum, and the Bakersfield Museum of Art.
