Water is never just a background in California. It nourishes and sustains, yet it also bears the weight of fragility, scarcity, and desire. With 46 works spanning painting, sculpture, video, photography, and textile, Undercurrents reflects the layered ways artists respond to this elemental force.

Only in Passing

Curated by Kristopher Raos, Only in Passing takes its title from the familiar phrase used to describe Bakersfield—“only in passing.” Featuring eleven painters, the exhibition embraces abstraction as a space of immediacy and distance, offering impressions that are fleeting, fragmentary, and unresolved.
