Ken Taylor Reynaga | In Good Company

October 29th -December 5th
Reception: October 29th, 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM

In Good Company brings together paintings and sculptural works by Ken Taylor Reynaga that explore the intimate relationships between people, objects, and the spaces they inhabit. Drawing from the everyday experiences and cultural landscape of California's Central Valley, Reynaga finds significance in familiar scenes and objects, from domestic still lifes and portraits to the recurring form of the sombrero. Rooted in autobiography, these subjects become a means of exploring memory, cultural identity, and the domestic sphere. Through expressive color, thickly layered surfaces, and a fluid relationship between figuration and abstraction, Reynaga transforms the ordinary into compositions that are at once deeply personal and formally considered. Familiar objects take on a presence of their own, while figures and interiors suggest the relationships, histories, and experiences that shape our understanding of home and belonging.

In Good Company considers the quiet significance of the people and things that surround us, and the ways seemingly private moments can speak to a broader, shared experience.

Ken Taylor Reynaga (b. 1990, Lynwood, CA) creates richly layered paintings and sculptural works that explore the intimate details of everyday life. Born in Southern California and raised in Bakersfield, Reynaga draws from the cultural landscape of California's Central Valley, where experiences of migration, identity, family, and community inform his practice. Moving between figuration and abstraction, his work depicts familiar scenes and objects—from family gatherings and domestic still lifes to portraits and cowboy hats—through expressive gestures, vibrant color, and textured surfaces. Through these seemingly ordinary subjects, Reynaga examines the complex relationships between masculinity and domesticity, mixed-race identity, and class. His work locates broader social and political narratives within personal experiences, revealing the significance of moments often overlooked.

Reynaga received his BA from California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB), in 2014. His work has been presented in solo exhibitions at The Mistake Room, Guadalajara; The Newsstand Project, Los Angeles; and Capital Gallery, San Francisco. He has also participated in group exhibitions at Fort Gansevoort, New York; The Pit, Los Angeles; Ever Gold [Projects], San Francisco; Steve Turner, Los Angeles; and Penske Projects, Montecito.
